There are also cabins and sites available to rent for both modern and primitive camping. During winter months, visitors can cross country ski or snowshoe along trails in the connected Gunslogson Nature Preserve and Tongue River. The state park also contains a museum and buildings form the homestead era of North Dakota.The biggest city event is undoubtedly the Cavalier Motorcycle Ride-in, held every Father's Day weekend. It brings in hundreds of motorcyclist from three states and Canada for a two-day celebration. The party kicks off Friday night with a street dance. Saturday is filled with a fun run scavenger hunt, biker games, kids' activities, and another street dance. There are also various food, crafts, and commemorative t-shirts for sale throughout the weekend. The rally concludes Sunday morning with a pancake breakfast that supports the local volunteer fire department. It is not surprise this event is called the "Little Sturgis of the North!"Cavalier's motto of "Four Seasons, Many Reasons" is a true statement. The region experiences hot summers with long daylights, crisp autumns, cold winters, and warm springs. Each is unique and offers something different from the others. Any month is a great time to visit, but late fall is the favorite of most in the area. The days are warm, but nights are cool enough to require a jacket or sitting around a bonfire. Nights are the perfect to catch the northern lights or get a clear view of fall constellations.
